5 Home Remedies to Treat Dry Skin

Olive Oil

How to apply?

All you need is;

  1. 2 tbsp of olive oil
  2. 4 tbsp of fine brown sugar
  3. 1 tbsp of honey

Mix all the ingredients to make scrub. Rub this homemade scrub on your dry skin light for a few minutes in circular motions. Now take a shower and then apply a light moisturizer. You can also use olive oil without making scrub. Before taking shower just rub some olive oil on your hands, legs and other areas with dry skin and massage lightly.

You can also dab a thin layer of extra virgin olive oil under your regular moisturizer.


Another excellent skin-hydrating agent is yogurt, which is blessed with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Yogurt help soothes dry and itchy skin and make it soft and smooth. It contains lactic acid content that helps get rid of any germs or bacteria which may cause dryness or itchiness.

How to apply?

All you need for making scrub is;

  1. One- half cup of yogurt
  2. 3 tbsp of mashed or blended papaya
  3. Few drops of honey
  4. Few drops of lemon juice

Mix all the ingredients to make a scrub. When the scrub gets smooth. Apply it on your skin and leave it on for 10 minutes. Now wash it off with cold water. Do this scrubbing once in a week for the best result.

You can also use yogurt raw. Have fresh yogurt on your hands, face and legs and gently massage it into your skin. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then take a bath. The exfoliating action of yogurt will remove dry skin and leave your skin refreshed and smooth. It is best to do once daily.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil contains good amount of fatty acids that is really good for treating dry skin. Loss of moisture from the skin can be easily made up of coconut oil.

How to apply?

Take some coconut oil on your hand and apply on your dry skin after you take bath. When the skin warms- up and supple from your bath, coconut oil is more readily absorbed. Do this regularly!

Another method to use coconut oil is that before going to bed, apply liberally warm coconut oil all over your body. Wash it off in the morning. To make your skin soft and smooth, use coconut oil daily.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is an excellent remedy for dry skin. It is the source of vitamin E and considered as the best lubricant for dry skin. Due to its antioxidant property, it is good for your skin’s overall health. Almond oil is easily absorbed in the skin, due to its non-greasy property.

How to apply?

Following are two ways to use almond oil;

  1. Have some pure almond oil and gently warm up. Now massage your body lightly with warm oil for half an hour before taking a shower. After shower, when your skin is still damp, apply a few drops of almond oil as a light moisturizer. Do this once daily for emollient and smooth skin.
  2. Another method to use almond oil is; drink a glass of warm milk mixed with one teaspoon of almond oil before going to bed. Do this method every night to enjoy healthier skin as well as sound sleep.

Aloe Vera is very easy to use. Cut open a fresh aloe Vera leaf and squeeze the gel out of it. Now, apply the gel on your dry skin. Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes. Using lukewarm water rinses it.
