We’re not talking about air barriers because we’re too busy talking about vapor barriers. Products that can act as air barriers, such as drywall, walls, house insulation, even the polyethylene that we usually install as vapor barrier, can act as an effective air barrier, but only if you follow the installation guidelines.

Where to install the correct air barrier:
The walls of the building should have only one vapor barrier layer, and this goes along the warm side of the insulation. Air barriers, on the other hand, can be anywhere on a wall mount and are very diverse. It is extremely unlikely that your air barrier will be flawless, so a second and a third one is imperative. Since the overall goal is to slow the movement of air through the wall, each additional air barrier will only help and increase the effectiveness of the previous one.
Five basic requirements for effective wind protection:
- No gaps, cracks or holes.
- Impervious to air leakage.
- Should work both ways.
- Durable: Should last the entire life of the building.
- Maintainability: access for repair in case of damage.
What materials are used as an air barrier:
Water resistant membranes are known. While their purpose is primarily a breathable membrane to protect against water ingress behind the liner, it can be an effective air barrier if installed as such. how to install vinyl siding Water vapor can easily pass through, but air cannot.
Alternatively, we would suggest a membrane for much better air insulation that is attached with glue and does not need to be nailed down with a stapler during installation. Bonding to the wall also means that the holes from staples and nails will not stretch over time due to external influences on the membrane from wind pressure.
For better or worse, many homes use a polyethylene barrier. If this is your choice, it can also act as your air barrier. For a truly successful polyethylene air barrier, it needs to be protected from wind pressure by supporting it in both directions. One surefire way to do this is to place it between two hard materials such as drywall, but it can come with a hefty cost.
Breathable insulated OSB (oriented strand board)
It is worth noting first of all – OSB (oriented strand board) as a material is an effective air barrier. And if the joints are hermetically sealed insulation, it also acts as a vapor barrier, which is not allowed on the outside of homes, as you will trap moisture inside your wall.
However, there are insulation materials for the home that can create an air and thermal barrier while still allowing the walls to breathe and therefore not trap water vapor in your walls.
Think of it as if you are trying to seal a leaky bucket and make it waterproof. The water will easily find any holes you missed and will end up leaving you with an empty bucket. Of course, the house will never run out of air, but it will also never run out of moisture to pass through the holes in the air barrier.
What paint to paint a brick wall and how to do it correctly

Any masonry surface, like any decorated surface, must be carefully prepared. Absolutely any finishing work will be good only with the right preparatory work. Of course, you can quickly apply paint to dirty and unprepared surfaces, but this will usually not last long.
A pressure washer can be used to clean masonry. But if you are using one, you must wait until your walls are completely dry before painting. This takes up to 3 weeks in continuous sunlight, so we do not recommend washing the brick before painting.
Most masonry paints seal any moisture. This will lead to dampness as it cannot evaporate, mold. Or try to find its way into the building through the warm interior walls! If the masonry is wet, it increases the likelihood of a reaction with salts in the masonry itself or in the mortar. This leads to fading. Heat loss through damp walls is three times greater than through dry walls.

Once the seams are filled and the surface is cleaned, you can prime your surface. The primer binds any potentially loose dust spots and invisible ones together.
This will provide a more stable surface for painting. An added bonus is that it makes your masonry paint go to paint more of the surface. As the surface is slightly less absorbent.
Another point to mention is that most paints prevent your masonry from breathing. Look for compounds that allow the masonry to breathe. When painting, look for microporous paint, which, again, allows the wall to breathe. Better yet, breathable anti-mildew paint .
